Man claims he went up with friends to 'play video games', but they shocked him with a secret plan to kill someone: Police

A 19-year-old man from Nevada has been arrested after a deadly shooting, but he claims he had no idea things would turn violent. According to police, he said he thought the night was only about hanging out, playing video games, and spending time with friends.

What Happened That Night

The incident took place in Las Vegas on April 10. Police officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the evening. When they arrived, they found 59-year-old Victor Powe dead inside his car. He had been shot multiple times, and his vehicle had crashed into a nearby building.

Surveillance footage from the area showed a disturbing sequence of events. Powe was sitting in his parked car when three young men approached him. One appeared to stand watch, while the other two moved closer to the vehicle. One of them reportedly told Powe to step out of the car, while another stood on the passenger side holding a rifle.

Soon after, gunshots were fired. Even though Powe tried to escape by driving away, he lost control of the car after being hit and died at the scene.

What the Accused Told Police

The accused, Elijah Harris, contacted police on April 16 but initially said he was too scared to speak. Later, he shared his version of events with investigators.

Harris said the evening began at his apartment, where he and two friends planned to relax, smoke marijuana, and play video games. He claimed one of his friends arrived carrying a rifle, which he said he did not approve of.

When they ran out of marijuana, one of the friends suggested contacting a supplier, known as a “plug.” They were then directed to meet Victor Powe, who was described as the person delivering the drugs.

Harris told police that before leaving the apartment, his friends even asked if he was sure he wanted to come along. He agreed, thinking it was just a normal meet-up.

The Shooting and Aftermath

According to Harris, things quickly went wrong during the meeting. After a brief conversation with Powe, one of his friends suddenly started shooting.

Harris said he immediately ran back to the apartment. When the other two men returned later, they reportedly changed their clothes and admitted that things had gone badly and were not supposed to happen that way.

Even though Harris denied knowing about any plan to rob or harm Powe, he admitted to police that he “should have known something was wrong.”

Charges and Legal Action

Harris has now been charged with:

  • Open murder
  • Attempted robbery
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery

He is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 20.

Police have not yet publicly identified the other two suspects involved in the case.
