A 30-year-old man from Yale is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting three staff members at a mental health facility in Stillwater.
Dustin Jacob Miller has been jailed on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, where he may request a preliminary hearing.
Incident at Grand Mental Health Facility
According to an affidavit from the Stillwater Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call around 9:01 p.m. on April 4 from Grand Mental Health.
The caller reportedly said, “you need to get someone up here,” before hanging up.
When officers arrived, they initially could not enter the building. An employee returning from a break let them inside.
Officers Witness Assault in Progress
Officer Chase Mobus reported that upon entering the urgent recovery area, he saw Miller actively assaulting two women. It was later determined that three female staff members had been attacked.
According to the affidavit:
- Miller was hitting the women and pulling their hair
- Staff appeared to be attempting to calm or restrain him
- One woman was thrown to the ground
The officer ordered Miller to stop, and he was immediately taken into custody.
Suspect’s Statements and Condition
Miller told officers that the staff would not allow him to leave or provide what he described as the correct medication. He also claimed the women spit on him and said he wanted to press charges.
Officers reported:
- Only minor scratch marks were visible on Miller
- No evidence of saliva was found
The affidavit also noted that Miller has a history of:
- Public intoxication
- Assault
- Substance abuse, including inhalant use
Police records indicate he has previously been identified as having mental health issues.
Medical Evaluation and Arrest
Miller complained of chest pain and said he believed he might be having a heart attack. Emergency responders evaluated him at the scene and conducted an EKG, which was reported as normal.
He was transported to a hospital for clearance before being taken to jail. Officers noted he was upset about not receiving specific medication.
After being cleared by medical staff, Miller was booked into jail without further incident.
The three staff members who were assaulted declined medical treatment at the scene.
