Emergency crews in Arkansas successfully located two missing individuals during separate overnight search and rescue operations in Crawford County, according to local officials.
The coordinated efforts, which took place from Saturday into early Sunday, involved multiple agencies and volunteers working through the night to ensure both individuals were found safely.
Elderly Man With Dementia Located Near Home
The first incident involved an 84-year-old man who had wandered away from his home in the Mountainburg area. Officials said the man has dementia, which raised immediate concern for his safety.
Search teams initially deployed a drone to scan the area but were unable to locate him during the first attempt. A second search operation was later launched, and crews eventually found the man injured but alive. He was located just over 300 feet from the command post, highlighting how close he had been to search teams during the earlier effort.
Second Missing Man Found After GPS Alert
In a separate incident, a 41-year-old man went missing after walking down an all-terrain vehicle trail near Hurricane Creek, reportedly against advice.
Before losing contact, the man sent his last known GPS location to a friend. This information proved critical, allowing rescue crews to respond quickly. Teams reached the area on foot and successfully located him, confirming he was safe.
Coordinated Effort by Multiple Agencies
The successful outcomes were the result of a large, coordinated response involving several local agencies and volunteer teams.
Participants included:
- Van Buren Police Department
- Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office
- Search and rescue teams from Washington and Franklin counties
Officials noted that many responders were either actively involved or on standby, ready to assist if needed.
Officials Praise Search and Rescue Teams
Crawford County Emergency Management praised the dedication of the volunteers and first responders involved in the operations.
They emphasized that while most people were asleep, these teams worked through the night to support law enforcement and ensure both individuals were brought home safely.
The back-to-back rescue efforts in Crawford County demonstrate the importance of rapid response, coordination, and community support in emergency situations. Thanks to the efforts of trained volunteers and multiple agencies, both individuals were safely located.
These incidents serve as a reminder of how critical preparedness and teamwork are in search and rescue operations, especially when time is a key factor.
