A routine traffic stop in Northern California turned into a shocking double homicide investigation, leaving authorities and the public stunned. What began as a simple check for an expired vehicle registration quickly escalated into a serious criminal case involving two deaths and multiple charges.
Routine Traffic Stop Turns Into Major Investigation
The incident took place on April 5 in Clearlake, California, when officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) tried to stop a vehicle for having an expired registration.
The vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, was seen driving on State Route 53. However, instead of stopping, the driver continued moving, forcing officers to follow the car.
Suspects Detained After Attempt to Flee
The vehicle eventually stopped near 18th Avenue and Oak Street. At that point:
- A passenger ran away from the scene
- Police chased and later caught him
- The driver remained at the location
The passenger was identified as Alex Kenneth Schussolin, 37, while the driver was identified as Jasslynn Pearl Critchett, 32. Both are residents of Clearlake.
Dead Body Found Inside Vehicle
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed blood inside the vehicle. On further inspection, they found an unresponsive man in the rear passenger area.
The man was later declared dead. This discovery immediately turned the situation into a homicide investigation.
Second Victim Discovered Nearby
During further investigation, authorities suspected there might be another victim connected to the case.
Police searched an area near State Route 175, close to the Lake-Mendocino County line. There, they found the body of a woman down an embankment.
So far:
- Identities of both victims have not been officially confirmed
- Authorities believe they may be from Sonoma County
Weapon Found During Investigation
Police also recovered a gun near the location where Schussolin had fled. However, officials have not confirmed whether the weapon was directly used in the crime.
Serious Charges Filed Against Accused
Both suspects have been taken into custody and booked into Lake County Jail. They are facing multiple serious charges, including:
- Murder
- Carjacking
- Being a felon in possession of a firearm
- Being a felon in possession of ammunition
