A tragic hit-and-run case from the United States has shocked many after a young college student lost her life in a late-night accident. The accused driver was later identified through strong evidence, including camera footage and forensic findings, making this case both disturbing and eye-opening.
Young Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Case
Gabryella Liebgott, 22, from Minnesota, has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. She is accused of hitting and killing 22-year-old college student Seham Hassen and then fleeing the scene.
The incident happened on March 22 in St. Paul, where Hassen was out with friends during the early morning hours.
How the Accident Happened
According to police reports, the victim and her friends had just stepped out of their car around 3 a.m. when the accident occurred. As Hassen tried to cross the road, a speeding car struck her with extreme force.
The impact was so strong that parts of her clothing were scattered across the road, and the car’s side mirror was torn off. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly did not survive her injuries.
Hassen was just months away from graduating from the University of St. Thomas, making the loss even more heartbreaking.
Camera Footage Captured the Incident
One of the key pieces of evidence in this case came from a Tesla vehicle parked nearby. Its camera system recorded the entire incident.
The footage reportedly shows Hassen trying to move away from the speeding car, but she did not have enough time to escape. The car hit her, threw her onto the windshield, and then ran over her before speeding away.
Car Found with Suspicious Damage
About a week after the incident, police were informed about a damaged car left at an auto repair shop. The vehicle, an Infiniti G35 registered to Liebgott, had visible damage similar to the one seen in the video footage.
The shop owner told police that a woman named “Gabby” had dropped off the car and requested vinyl wrapping. She also asked to leave the car there for some time and planned to fix it later, which raised suspicion.
Police found this unusual because repairs are usually done before wrapping a car.
Strong Forensic Evidence
When investigators examined the vehicle, they found clear signs linking it to the crime:
- The side mirror was missing
- Damage matched the crash impact
- Blood traces were found on the car
- Fibres matched the dress worn by the victim
This evidence strongly connected the car to the fatal accident.
Events Before the Crash
Police also tracked Liebgott’s activities before the accident. She had been drinking with two friends at a local venue earlier that night.
After leaving around 2 a.m., her car was reportedly seen driving at high speed and swerving into oncoming traffic.
Her friends later told police that they felt a strong impact while she was driving. One of them saw white fabric on the windshield immediately after the crash.
When asked if she hit something, Liebgott admitted she had and mentioned her mirror was gone. Although she briefly thought about stopping, she decided to drive away.
Arrest and Legal Action
Liebgott was arrested on April 3 and is currently being held in custody with bail set at $150,000. She faces serious charges, and her case will proceed in court.
Her friends and others reportedly encouraged her to surrender to authorities after the incident.
