'Fought with everything I had': Motorist assaults good Samaritan on highway who stopped to help after smash with guardrail, cops say

A simple act of helping someone on the roadside turned into a frightening experience for a Florida man. What started as an attempt to assist after a car crash quickly became violent, leaving one man injured and police officers attacked. The shocking incident has raised concerns about safety even during good deeds.

Good Samaritan Attacked After Stopping to Help

Hans Hamilton was driving along a highway in Florida when he noticed a crashed vehicle. Wanting to help, he pulled over near the accident site on State Road 429 close to Seidel Road in Winter Garden, near Orlando.

However, instead of finding someone in need of help, he was allegedly attacked by the driver of the crashed vehicle, later identified as Daniel Coman, 44.

Crash Scene Turns Violent

When deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reached the scene around 10 a.m. on March 30, they found a white Lexus that had crashed into a guardrail.

Nearby, Hamilton stood close to his Tesla, explaining what had just happened. According to him, Coman suddenly became aggressive when he tried to offer help.

Police reports described Coman as:

  • Visibly angry and highly agitated
  • Shouting abusive language
  • Acting in an aggressive and threatening manner

Suspect Attacks Victim Repeatedly

Hamilton told authorities that Coman jumped onto the hood of his Tesla and started stomping and hitting the vehicle. Soon after, the situation became more serious.

Coman allegedly attacked Hamilton and:

  • Hit him at least 15 times
  • Caused injuries to his face
  • Left him with bruises and cuts
  • Caused severe pain in his side

The Tesla was also badly damaged, with a broken windshield and dents on the hood and roof.

Victim Feared for His Life

In an interview with a local news channel, Hamilton shared how terrifying the moment was for him.

He said Coman repeatedly threatened to kill him, shouting, “I’m going to kill you!” Hamilton admitted that he truly believed the threat and feared he might not survive the attack.

He said he fought back with all his strength just to stay alive and avoid becoming another roadside tragedy.

Suspect Also Attacks Police Officers

The violence did not stop when law enforcement arrived. According to the arrest report, Coman continued his aggressive behaviour even in front of deputies.

When a deputy tried to control the situation, Coman:

  • Attempted to push and punch the officer
  • Ignored repeated warnings to calm down
  • Resisted arrest

The deputy eventually forced him to the ground. Even then, Coman kept resisting, and with the help of Hamilton and another witness, officers were able to handcuff him.

Further Assault During Arrest

While being taken to the patrol car, Coman allegedly continued his violent actions. Police say he:

  • Grabbed one officer inappropriately
  • Kicked another officer

These actions led to additional charges against him.

Charges Filed Against the Accused

Daniel Coman now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Battery
  • Criminal mischief
  • Battery on a law enforcement officer

As of the latest update, he remains in the Orange County Jail with a bond set at $5,000.
