A tragic incident in Oregon has shocked the local community after a young man allegedly killed a convenience store worker during a robbery attempt for a very small amount of money. The case has drawn attention due to the accused’s own statements, where he admitted that the crime was not worth it.
Oregon Robbery Turns Fatal
A 21-year-old man, Michale J. Paine, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon. The charges are related to the killing of 57-year-old store clerk Ernesto Castellanos.
The incident took place on March 27 at a Plaid Pantry convenience store in Portland’s Cully neighbourhood. Police reached the location just before midnight after receiving a call about an unconscious person.
Victim Found Dead at the Scene
When officers arrived, they found Castellanos lying inside the store with gunshot wounds. Sadly, he was declared dead at the scene.
Later, the medical examiner confirmed that his death was a homicide. Reports revealed that he was shot twice — once in the chest and once in the neck — and either injury could have been fatal.
Accused Turns Himself In
After police released images of the suspect from CCTV footage and asked for public help, the accused decided to surrender.
Paine called emergency services himself and said he wanted to turn himself in. Police took him into custody without any struggle.
During the ride, he reportedly started speaking on his own about the crime and expressed regret.

Police were able to identify Paine using multiple pieces of evidence, including fingerprints found on a cup left at the scene. They also recovered a weapon and clothing believed to be connected to the crime.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a black hoodie with a design inspired by a horror movie character, which made him easier to identify in the footage.
