According to police reports, Noel Bermudez-Chin, an 18-year-old from New York, has been charged with second-degree murder. The incident took place in East Northport, and he was presented in court in Central Islip shortly after his arrest.
The victim, Joseph Falvo, aged 61, was found with multiple stab wounds inside a trailer where he was staying.
Police received a 911 call around 3:42 a.m. on Sunday reporting the attack. Reports say that the caller was Bermudez-Chin himself.
What Happened Inside the Trailer
As per prosecutors, the attack was extremely violent. Bermudez-Chin allegedly told police that he:
- Threw boiling oil on the victim
- Poured boiling water while he was asleep
- Stabbed him multiple times in the back
- Stabbed him again in the stomach
Court documents suggest that the victim was stabbed around five to six times before he died.
The attack reportedly happened while Falvo was sleeping on a couch, making the situation even more disturbing.
Living Situation Before the Incident
The victim was engaged to Cecilia Bermudez, the grandmother of the accused.
Reports state that the couple had recently gotten engaged in February and were planning to get married in July.
All three — Bermudez-Chin, his grandmother, and Falvo — were living together in a trailer. They had moved there after a house fire in December 2025 damaged their home.
After the Attack
After the incident, Falvo was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, doctors were unable to save him, and he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Police later found Bermudez-Chin about a mile away from the scene. He was taken into custody without any major resistance.
