A serious crime case in North Carolina has taken a new turn after a 22-year-old man, already in custody for one murder, is now facing a second murder charge. The case has shocked the local community and raised concerns about violent incidents linked to ongoing investigations.
Second Murder Charge Filed in Charlotte Case
Angelvis Jesus Quintero Fernandez, 22, is now facing two counts of first-degree murder. He was already in custody for a January killing when authorities connected him to another fatal shooting that happened in March.
Police confirmed that updated warrants were served while he was being held in Mecklenburg County Jail.
March Shooting Incident Details
The latest incident happened in the early morning hours of March 22 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Police responded to an assault call on Albemarle Road.
When officers reached the scene, they found a man identified as Luis Guitierrez Mora lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Reports say the shooting happened after a fight outside a local restaurant.
Victim Dies, Charges Upgraded
Initially, Fernandez was charged with attempted murder in the March case. However, the situation changed when Mora later died from his injuries.
Following his death, prosecutors upgraded the charge to first-degree murder, making the case more serious.
Connection to Earlier January Murder
Investigators also linked Fernandez to another murder that took place in January. In that case, 44-year-old Ludvin Antonio Guzman Morales was shot multiple times on Central Avenue.
Morales was reportedly trying to stop a fight when he was killed. At the time, police did not have a clear suspect.
The connection between the two cases was made through forensic evidence. Authorities found that bullet casings from both crime scenes matched the same weapon.
Confession and Arrest
Police say Fernandez was arrested on an unrelated charge before being linked to both shootings. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to shooting both victims.
This confession, along with the forensic evidence, played a major role in strengthening the case against him.
Additional Charges and Legal Status
Apart from the two murder charges, Fernandez is also facing several other charges, including:
