From Record Lottery Win to Legal Trouble
James Farthing, a 51-year-old man from Georgetown, Kentucky, became famous in April 2025 after winning a huge $167 million Powerball jackpot. This was the biggest lottery prize ever won in the state.
After his win, Farthing shared part of his money with his mother and spoke about wanting to turn his life around. However, his actions in the months that followed have kept him in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
First Arrest After Lottery Celebration
Just four days after his big win, Farthing was arrested in Florida while celebrating on a beach. The situation turned into a late-night altercation.
According to reports, he was accused of hitting a law enforcement officer. Bodycam footage later showed him kicking an officer and trying to run away before being stopped with a taser.
He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time already served after spending nine days in jail.
Second Arrest in February
Farthing’s legal troubles continued in February when he was arrested again in Georgetown. This time, the charges were related to intimidation.
Police responded to a 911 call from a woman who said she feared for her life. When officers reached the location, they found a firearm inside the house.
The woman claimed that Farthing had picked her up earlier and allegedly pressured her into consuming a substance. Farthing, however, told police that everything had seemed normal before the situation escalated.
This case is still ongoing, and he is expected to appear in court in April.
Third Arrest on Burglary and Drug Charges
In his latest arrest, Farthing has been charged with second-degree burglary and marijuana possession. Authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody and booked at the Fayette County Detention Center.
This marks his third arrest within a year of winning the lottery, showing a pattern of ongoing legal issues.
