A shocking security breach at a Florida airport has left many people stunned after a man allegedly drove his car onto the runway while intoxicated and tried to board aircraft. The incident, which happened within seconds, could have turned dangerous, but quick action by officials ensured everyone remained safe.
Man Crashes Into Airport Gate
Bryan J. Parker, a 58-year-old man from Holly Hill, Florida, was arrested on March 25 after he allegedly crashed his car into a locked gate at Daytona Beach International Airport.
According to authorities, Parker drove his vehicle at high speed through the secure perimeter gate and entered the restricted airport area. This kind of breach is considered extremely serious due to the high level of security usually maintained at airports.
Drives Onto Runway Area
After breaking through the gate, Parker continued driving onto the airfield. He headed toward an area used by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for aircraft operations.
Reports say he nearly hit a training aircraft that was on the taxiway at the time. This created a very risky situation, as planes and people were present in the area.
Attempts to Board Aircraft
Parker then got out of his car and allegedly tried to get into a plane that had people inside. When he failed, he ran toward another part of the airport and attempted to board a second aircraft.
Fortunately, airport staff and security personnel quickly noticed his actions and chased him. They managed to detain him before police officers arrived at the scene.
Arrest and Shocking Statements
Bodycam footage released by authorities shows Parker barefoot and in handcuffs near the runway. When questioned by officers, he appeared confused and admitted to consuming alcohol and drugs.
He reportedly said he had been drinking, using drugs, and could not clearly remember how he ended up at the airport. His statements raised further concerns about his condition at the time of the incident.
Quick Response Prevented Disaster
Airport officials confirmed that the entire incident lasted only about 30 seconds. Despite the short time, the situation was handled quickly and efficiently.
Multiple teams, including airport operations staff, air traffic controllers, university security, and sheriff’s deputies, responded within minutes. Their quick action helped prevent injuries and ensured that no aircraft were damaged.
Charges Against the Accused
Parker has been booked into the Volusia County Jail and is facing several serious charges, including:
- Attempted aircraft piracy
- Burglary of a vehicle
- Felony trespassing at an airport
- Criminal mischief
- DUI with property damage
- Refusal to submit to testing
- Public exposure charges
These charges highlight the seriousness of the incident and the potential danger it posed.
Airport Confirms Safety
Airport authorities reassured the public that no one was injured during the incident and that all operations returned to normal quickly.
They also thanked the staff, security teams, and witnesses who acted fast and helped control the situation.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are working to understand all details of how the incident happened and whether any additional actions are required.
