A tragic road accident in Georgia has left a young couple heartbroken after they lost their unborn baby. The incident, involving a school bus and an SUV, is now under investigation. The parents are demanding justice and answers as they try to cope with their loss.
Couple Loses Unborn Baby in Crash
Sierra Johnson and her partner Kasen Millwood were travelling in their car when the accident happened on March 20.
Sierra, who was just over 23 weeks pregnant at the time, suffered serious injuries. Sadly, despite medical efforts, the couple lost their baby boy, Mason, after an emergency C-section.
Mother Recalls Terrifying Moment
Sierra described the pain and fear she felt right after the crash. She said it felt like her body was burning, and she thought she might die.
Lying on the road, she pleaded with people nearby to help her and save her unborn child. Her emotional account shows how serious and frightening the situation was.
Bus Driver Allegedly Ignored Stop Sign
According to the Georgia State Patrol, early investigation reports suggest that the crash happened because a school bus driver failed to stop at a stop sign.
The accident took place in Lowndes County at the intersection of Howell Road and Inner Perimeter Road.
Officials say video evidence shows the bus did not stop and entered the road, hitting the couple’s Hyundai SUV.
Details from the Crash Report
Investigators found that:
- The bus was moving east on Howell Road
- It did not stop at the stop sign
- The couple’s SUV was travelling south on Inner Perimeter Road
- The bus hit the front side of their vehicle
After the impact, their car lost control and stopped in the opposite lane. Sierra was found lying on the road with serious injuries.
The bus driver reportedly told officials that they did not see the couple’s vehicle before entering the intersection.
Serious Injuries and Emergency Surgery
Sierra was rushed to the hospital with major injuries, including:
- A broken collarbone
- A punctured lung
Doctors at South Georgia Medical Center performed an emergency C-section to try and save the baby. Unfortunately, the baby could not survive.
The couple had been expecting their son on July 12, 2026.
Investigation Still Ongoing
The Georgia State Patrol has handed over the case to its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. According to officials, the investigation may take 60 to 90 days because of the detailed work involved.
Authorities are carefully examining all evidence, including video footage and witness statements, to understand exactly what happened.
Family Demands Justice
The couple has said they want justice for their baby and clear answers about the crash.
They also shared that no one from the school district has contacted them since the incident, which has added to their frustration.
Kasen described the shocking moment when he realised what had happened. He saw Sierra on the road after the crash and immediately understood how serious the situation was.
Emotional and Physical Recovery
The loss has deeply affected both parents. Sierra is still recovering from her physical injuries, along with the emotional pain of losing her child.
A fundraiser created for the couple describes their grief as something no parent should ever experience. It also highlights that their journey toward healing will be long and difficult.
