A night out in Kentucky resulted in several individuals being arrested and others injured after a confrontation escalated over a perceived slight. The incident took place on March 8, 2025, at the Paddock Shops, a shopping mall in Louisville, and involved a group of men seeking revenge over a comment they believed to be disrespectful.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Incident
Malakhi Scott Weathers-Parker, 20, and Seth Jones, 20, are facing serious charges following the violent confrontation. Weathers-Parker is charged with one count of strangulation in the first degree, assault in the fourth degree, and unlawful transaction with a minor. Jones faces two counts of assault and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
The Incident at the Paddock Shops
The events unfolded when a group of three people, heading to eat at Malone’s, encountered another group posing for a photo in the parking lot. One member of the first group shouted “say cheese” to the second group before heading inside the restaurant. The second group, including Weathers-Parker and Jones, allegedly took offense to the comment and later returned to confront the first group.
The Confrontation Escalates
After leaving the area to drop someone off, Weathers-Parker and Jones returned to the parking lot with a juvenile in tow. They attempted to locate the first group by visiting several nearby restaurants. When the victims returned to their car, the two groups confronted each other once again, leading to a violent altercation.
Victims Suffer Serious Injuries
The confrontation quickly turned physical. One victim was reportedly beaten with their own metal baton, while another was placed in a chokehold until they lost consciousness. The unconscious victim suffered a concussion, skull fractures, and a brain bleed. A third victim was left with bruises and contusions on their body. The attackers fled the scene after the incident, and the confrontation was witnessed by a bystander and captured on surveillance cameras.
Arrests and Legal Defense
Seth Jones was arrested on March 18, 2025. His lawyer argued that Jones acted in self-defense after the alleged victims pulled out a deadly weapon. “Mr. Jones was forced to defend himself and disarm them,” defense attorney Nick Mudd stated, according to WDRB.
The police later posted on social media asking for the public’s help in locating Weathers-Parker. The post humorously referenced the incident, calling out the defendant as one of the “cheese heads” involved in the assault.
Weathers-Parker’s Arrest
Malakhi Scott Weathers-Parker was arrested on March 24, 2025. The police department confirmed his arrest in a follow-up social media post.
Lawsuit Filed Against Paddock Shops
In addition to the criminal cases, a woman injured in the attack filed a lawsuit against the Paddock Shops, alleging negligence and premises liability. The plaintiff claims the shopping mall lacked adequate security and lighting in the parking lot, making the incident foreseeable and preventable.
Attorney David Barber, representing the injured woman, argued that the mall’s security was insufficient and that the lighting in the area was inadequate, which contributed to the attack. “She was ambushed in a dark parking lot,” Barber stated.
