A Kentucky man has been arrested after police say he brutally killed his wife inside their home and attempted to move her body before officers arrived. Authorities described the scene as extremely violent, with investigators saying the victim suffered severe injuries. The suspect is now facing multiple serious charges as the case moves through the court system.
Kentucky Man Arrested After Wife Found Dead in Garage
Richard Chesher, 67, was arrested in Mount Washington, Kentucky, in connection with the death of his wife.
Officers from the Mount Washington Police Department responded to Chesher’s home on Friday night. When they arrived, they reportedly found Chesher standing in the garage covered in blood.
According to the arrest report, officers discovered the body of his wife nearby in the garage.
Chesher was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Bullitt County Detention Center.
Police Say Suspect Was Trying to Move the Body
Investigators say Chesher may have been attempting to move his wife’s body when officers arrived at the scene.
Reports indicate that police found a pickup truck backed up to the garage door with a ramp leading to the truck bed.
Authorities also said the victim’s body was wrapped with a garden hose.
According to investigators, Chesher was allegedly trying to load the body into the truck when police arrived.
Officers also reported that Chesher attempted to close the garage door when they approached, but they were able to detain him without further incident.
Blood Trail Led Investigators Through the Home
While examining the property, police discovered evidence that suggested the violence began inside the house.
Investigators found a trail of blood that started inside the home and continued into the garage.
At the scene, officers recovered a blood-covered piece of wood described as a “club-like” object.
Authorities believe this object may have been used during the attack.
Victim Suffered Severe Injuries
Police reports state that the victim suffered extensive injuries.
According to investigators, the woman was beaten so severely in the face and head that she was reportedly unrecognizable.
Authorities have not yet publicly released the victim’s name.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue gathering evidence related to the incident.
Suspect Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Richard Chesher has been charged with several serious offenses, including:
- Murder
- Domestic violence
- Tampering with evidence
- Abuse of a corpse
He appeared in court for the first time on Monday.
During the hearing, a judge set his bail at $1 million cash.
Chesher remains in custody at the Bullitt County Detention Center.
Next Court Hearing Scheduled
The court scheduled Chesher’s next appearance for a preliminary hearing on March 17.
During that hearing, prosecutors are expected to present initial evidence in the case.
