Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that she recently underwent a facelift and shared honest details about her emotional journey with plastic surgery.
The former talk show host opened up in a personal Substack post titled “decisions,” where she discussed why she changed her longtime views on cosmetic procedures. She also shared before-and-after photos on Instagram showing the results of the surgery.
Rosie O’Donnell Once Strongly Opposed Facelifts
O’Donnell admitted that for many years she believed she would never get a facelift. She said she once viewed cosmetic surgery as something that conflicted with feminism, aging naturally, and accepting oneself.
However, her perspective slowly changed after losing 50 pounds. According to the actress, there came a point where forcing herself to completely reject cosmetic procedures no longer felt honest.
She explained that acceptance started to feel more like pretending rather than a genuine belief.
Her Daughter Reacted to the Decision
The comedian revealed that her 13-year-old daughter, Clay O’Donnell, reacted strongly after learning about the surgery plans.
O’Donnell said her daughter sounded exactly like her younger self and questioned the idea of getting a facelift. The actress described it as an emotional moment because it reflected the opinions she once strongly held herself.
Still, O’Donnell viewed the conversation as an important lesson for her children. She said she wants them to grow up understanding that people should feel free to make personal choices without losing respect for themselves.
Rosie Wanted to Avoid Becoming Obsessed
O’Donnell also shared that she carefully approached the surgery because she did not want cosmetic procedures to become an unhealthy obsession.
She explained that she wanted clear limits and did not want to constantly chase more changes to her appearance.
Interestingly, the actress said almost nobody noticed the difference after the surgery. She joked that she went through a major emotional and feminist crisis over the facelift, only for people around her not to comment on it at all.
Entering ‘Act 3’ of Her Life
At the end of her essay, O’Donnell described this stage of her life as “Act 3.”
She said she feels grateful to still be alive, able to speak openly, and comfortable making her own decisions at 64 years old. The actress reflected on both the young girl she once was and the woman she has become today.
Rosie Previously Spoke Against Plastic Surgery
Back in a 2021 interview, O’Donnell had spoken openly about why she planned to age naturally. At the time, she believed avoiding plastic surgery would help her land more mature acting roles as she got older.
She said she wanted to look like a woman her age and believed that choice would benefit her acting career in the future.
Over the years, O’Donnell has continued to receive acting opportunities, even as she entered her 60s.
