California Veteran Dies After Brutal Attack Outside Home
Kerry Sheron died on May 24 after suffering serious injuries during an alleged assault outside his home in Escondido, California.
According to the Escondido Police Department, the attack happened on the afternoon of May 20.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Sheron badly injured. A bystander who reportedly stepped in to help was also hurt during the incident.
Sheron’s family later confirmed his death through a fundraiser created online.
Suspect Arrested After Incident
Police arrested Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, shortly after the attack.
Authorities said Butler matched the description of the suspect involved in the assault.
Initially, Butler was charged with attempted murder. However, after Sheron’s death, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office began reviewing the case to determine whether additional or upgraded charges should be filed.
Reports stated that Butler previously appeared in court and pleaded not guilty.
