A Philadelphia man says his daily walk home from work turned into a nightmare after a group of teenagers allegedly followed, attacked, and robbed him late at night. The violent incident, which was caught on surveillance video, left the victim badly injured and fearful of walking alone again after nearly a decade of using the same route safely.
Philadelphia Man Attacked While Walking Home From Work
According to Philadelphia police, the attack happened on Friday around 10:40 p.m. near 10th Street and Shunk Street in South Philadelphia.
The victim, 46-year-old German Corona, had just completed a long 13-hour workday between two jobs. He was walking home from work near 1000 Oregon Avenue, a route he said he had taken almost every night for the past 10 years.
Police said four juvenile males began following Corona before surrounding and attacking him.
Surveillance Video Captures Brutal Assault
Video footage obtained by local media reportedly shows the group approaching Corona from different directions before suddenly attacking him.
Corona said the attackers never spoke before the assault began.
“They don’t say anything,” he said while describing the terrifying moment.
According to Corona, he believes he was struck in the back of the head with an object, causing him to lose consciousness for nearly a minute.
When he woke up, he saw blood on the ground and realized the group was still beating him and demanding money.
Victim Suffered Serious Injuries During Robbery
Police said the attackers continued beating Corona until he handed over his wallet, which contained around $200 in cash.
Nearby residents reportedly heard the disturbance and started making noise, causing the suspects to run away from the scene.
The attack left Corona with serious injuries, including:
- A broken nose
- Head injuries requiring three staples
- Heavy bleeding after being knocked unconscious
Emergency responders later took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Suspects Still on the Run
The Philadelphia Police Department confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
Investigators said the suspects fled in different directions after the robbery. Two reportedly ran north while another escaped south.
Police are now asking the public for help in identifying the attackers. Anyone with information about the case has been urged to contact the South Detective Division.
Victim Says He No Longer Feels Safe
Corona said the attack has deeply affected him emotionally. After years of peacefully walking home at night, he now fears for his safety.
“I walk on the street for like 10 years every night,” he said. “Never worried, nothing. It’s always nice and quiet.”
He added that he hopes no one else experiences the same kind of violence.
The shocking incident has also raised concerns among local residents about late-night safety and youth violence in the area.
