A tragic road rage incident in Michigan has taken a deadly turn after a 75-year-old man died months after allegedly being punched by a DoorDash driver during a neighbourhood confrontation. Authorities say the victim, Lloyd Poole, suffered severe head injuries after the altercation and later passed away, leading prosecutors to consider more serious charges against the accused driver.
The shocking case has sparked fresh concerns about rising road rage violence and aggressive behaviour on residential streets.
Michigan DoorDash Driver Accused in Elderly Man’s Death
Police in Wixom, a suburb near Detroit, said officers responded to a call on Dec. 28 about an elderly man lying unconscious in the road near Barberry Circle and Windingway Drive.
When officers arrived, they found 75-year-old Lloyd Poole unresponsive.
Investigators soon learned the incident may have started during a confrontation over speeding in the neighbourhood.
Shortly after the incident, 41-year-old Ryan Turner reportedly went to the Wixom Police Department and admitted he had punched Poole during the argument.
According to police, Turner claimed he acted because he felt threatened.
Victim Suffered Serious Brain Injuries
Authorities say Poole fell to the ground and hit his head after being punched.
Reports state doctors later performed emergency brain surgery and removed part of his skull due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Despite medical treatment, Poole died months later from complications linked to the incident.
His death has now prompted prosecutors to review whether additional criminal charges should be filed against Turner.
Family Devastated by Tragic Incident
Poole’s daughter, Jen Shaw, spoke emotionally about the loss of her father.
She alleged that Turner punched her father unexpectedly and then drove away from the scene.
The family said they are struggling to understand how a simple complaint about speeding escalated into deadly violence.
Shaw also expressed concern about how unpredictable people’s reactions can be during everyday confrontations.
Suspect Was Delivering for DoorDash
According to investigators, Turner was working as a DoorDash delivery driver at the time of the incident.
Police initially arrested him on a misdemeanor aggravated assault charge. He later posted a $35,000 bond.
However, prosecutors have now confirmed they are reviewing the case following Poole’s death and may upgrade the charges depending on the evidence.
Officials from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said they remain committed to seeking justice for the victim’s family.
Past Road Rage Conviction Raises Questions
Reports also revealed that Turner had previously been convicted in another road rage-related case in 2022.
According to local reports, he lost his driver’s licence following that earlier incident.
The previous conviction has raised concerns about repeat aggressive driving behaviour and whether stronger action could have prevented another violent encounter.
DoorDash Responds After Incident
DoorDash released a statement condemning the alleged violence.
The company described the incident as “appalling and unacceptable” and confirmed Turner has been permanently removed from the delivery platform.
DoorDash also stated it is cooperating with local law enforcement during the investigation.
Growing Concerns Over Road Rage Violence
The death of Lloyd Poole has once again highlighted the dangers of road rage and violent confrontations over traffic disputes.
Incidents involving arguments over speeding, reckless driving, and aggressive behaviour have increasingly led to serious injuries and deaths across the United States.
Many people online have expressed sympathy for Poole’s family while calling for stricter consequences in violent road rage cases.
As prosecutors continue reviewing evidence, the case may now move toward more serious criminal charges in the coming weeks.
