A shocking case in New Jersey has left a community in disbelief after a teenager allegedly killed his own grandmother in a brutal attack. Louis Brown, 18, is now in custody for the murder of 69-year-old Darlene Brown.
Teen Arrested for Grandmother’s Murder
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Brown faces one count each of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The tragic incident happened at a multi-unit apartment building on Justin Way in Jackson Township, about 20 miles southwest of Asbury Park.
Crime Scene Details
Police responded to a 911 call around 7 a.m. on Monday. Louis Brown was waiting at the front door and surrendered with his hands raised. Inside, officers found a gruesome scene.
Investigators discovered Darlene Brown’s body in an upstairs bedroom with two knives still protruding from her face and neck.
The medical examiner reported at least eight stab wounds to her head and neck. Red stains on the carpet, blood in the bathroom sink, and blood spatter on walls indicated the brutality of the attack. Investigators collected knives, clothing, bedding, and towels as evidence.
Evidence and Weapons Found
Besides the two knives in the victim, police found 11 knives in Louis Brown’s bedroom and another knife in the victim’s bedroom. Brown allegedly admitted responsibility during the 911 call, initially stating he was calling “for a murder” and later confirming, “yea,” when asked if he had done it. He also admitted to drinking that morning and said knives were the only weapons in the home.

Authorities said Brown had lived with his grandmother most of his life and had few close relationships with other family members. School officials reported that he had recently made threatening remarks about wanting to kill people while mimicking a gun with his hand.
Neighbors noted unusual behaviour the night before, hearing loud music around 1 a.m. The victim’s daughter said the teenager had been withdrawn and “did not seem to be himself” in the days leading up to the murder.
