Florida Woman Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run Case
Police arrested Julia Blackwell, 21, and charged her with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. According to investigators, Blackwell called Ronald Bear for help after her silver pickup truck became stuck in a muddy ditch beside a highway.
Bear arrived at the location along with two relatives to help pull the truck out. Another black pickup truck was also present at the scene.
Authorities said Bear attached a tow strap between the vehicles so the black truck could pull Blackwell’s truck out of the mud.
Victim Allegedly Run Over While Helping
After the truck was successfully removed from the mud, Bear reportedly walked behind the vehicle to remove the tow strap. At that moment, police said Blackwell suddenly accelerated the truck, causing Bear to fall to the ground.
A witness later told investigators that Blackwell allegedly reversed the truck while Bear was still on the ground, running over him before driving away from the area.
According to police documents, Blackwell’s truck got stuck in mud again shortly after leaving the scene.
Witnesses Describe Shocking Moments
One witness told police he was travelling with Blackwell but did not directly see the moment Bear was struck. However, he claimed he heard Blackwell’s passenger shout, “You killed him.”
Police said Blackwell then exited the silver pickup truck, leaving the tow strap attached, and entered the black pickup truck with her passenger. The pair reportedly left the scene together.
Emergency responders arrived just before 6 a.m., but Ronald Bear was pronounced dead about 30 minutes earlier.
