A business owner in Oklahoma City is raising concerns about safety and crime near a growing homeless encampment along Virginia Avenue, saying nearby businesses have struggled for years to get help from city officials.
Local business owner Bob Morris said conditions in the area have become much worse over the past three years.
According to Morris, business owners have repeatedly contacted local officials, police, and outreach organizations but feel their concerns continue to be passed around without clear action being taken.
Morris said:
“It’s just a big revolving circle, and nothing gets done.”
He explained that businesses in the area have experienced increasing safety problems connected to the nearby encampment.

Morris added that his concerns are not about being against homeless individuals but about public safety and accountability.
He also questioned whether city officials would allow a similar encampment to remain in higher-profile areas such as:

- Midtown Oklahoma City
In response to questions from local media, the City of Oklahoma City released a statement acknowledging concerns from businesses and residents.
City officials said multiple departments are working together with legal teams to find both short-term and long-term solutions.
According to the statement, the city’s priorities include:

- Connecting unsheltered individuals with services and assistance
