A shocking family violence case in Arizona has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man accused of nearly killing his own mother while she slept in their home. Prosecutors say the attack appeared to be planned and completely unprovoked, leaving investigators deeply concerned about public safety.
Arizona Man Charged in Attempted Murder of Mother
George Randall, 25, has been arrested and charged with:
- Attempted first-degree homicide
- Aggravated assault
Authorities say Randall was taken into custody after police responded to a violent domestic incident in Chandler.
Police Responded to Early Morning Stabbing
According to the Chandler Police Department, officers were called to a home on North Evergreen Street around 4:30 a.m. on May 15 after reports of a stabbing involving family members.
When officers arrived:
- They found an injured woman suffering from severe stab wounds
- Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital
- Police detained Randall at the scene
Authorities later identified the victim as Randall’s mother.
Prosecutors Say Victim Was Sleeping
During Randall’s first court appearance, prosecutors revealed disturbing details about the alleged attack.
According to court statements, Randall allegedly:
- Waited until his mother was asleep on the couch
- Approached her while she was defenseless
- Stabbed her in the side of the neck
Prosecutors described the wound as potentially fatal.
Victim Survived After Emergency Surgery
Officials said the victim lost a dangerous amount of blood and reportedly lost consciousness during the attack.
Doctors immediately performed emergency surgery.
Medical officials later confirmed:
- Her condition stabilized
- She survived the near-fatal injuries
- She is now recovering in hospital
Authorities Call Attack ‘Completely Unprovoked’
During the court hearing, prosecutors described the incident as a deliberate and unprovoked attack.
According to investigators, Randall allegedly told law enforcement that:
- He had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks
- He intentionally selected the area of the body to cause maximum damage
- The attack was planned in advance
These statements became central to the prosecution’s argument.
Mental Health Concerns Raised in Court
Family members reportedly expressed concerns about Randall’s mental health during court proceedings.
Because of those concerns and the seriousness of the allegations, prosecutors argued that Randall posed an extreme danger to others.
Officials told the court they feared he could:
- Harm additional family members
- Pose a threat to the community
- Commit further acts of violence if released
Judge Sets $1 Million Cash Bond
After hearing the allegations, the judge granted the state’s request for strict bail conditions.
Randall was ordered held on:

He is expected to return to court later this month as the criminal case moves forward.
Investigation Remains Active
Police say detectives continue gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing statements as the investigation remains ongoing.
