Three men from Ardmore were detained on suspicion of stealing bongs during a break-in at a gas station

Police in Ardmore arrested three young men early Wednesday morning after they allegedly broke into a gas station and stole two bongs before being caught nearby.

According to the Ardmore Police Department, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Kang’s Broadway Express on West Broadway Street around 1:24 a.m.

Investigators say the suspects smashed a window to enter the business and stole two smoking devices valued at approximately $400 before fleeing the area.

Police Responded to Alarm Call

Authorities said officers arrived at the gas station shortly after receiving the alarm notification.

When police reached the business, they discovered a smashed window and a hammer lying on the ground outside the building.

No suspects were initially found at the scene.

Officers then reviewed surveillance footage from inside the store.

According to police, the video showed a masked man breaking the window and entering the business while two other individuals also entered the store shortly afterward.

Investigators say the group quickly grabbed two bongs before leaving.

Suspects Found Nearby Minutes Later

Police said officers located the three suspects only about a block away from the burglary scene.

The suspects were identified as:

  • Cadyn Cooper, 19
  • Logan Kelley, 18
  • Damon White, 18

All three were taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Jail.

Authorities charged each of them with second-degree burglary.

Police Believe One Suspect Was Injured During Break-In

Matthew Dunn said investigators believe one of the suspects may have cut himself while climbing through the broken window.

“After they entered the building, they stole two smoking devices from inside the store,” Dunn said.

Police did not publicly specify whether officers found blood or additional evidence connected to the injury.

Stolen Bongs Returned but Building Damage Significant

Although officers recovered and returned the stolen bongs to the gas station, police said the burglary caused much greater financial damage to the building itself.

According to Dunn, the smashed windows are specialty sizes and expensive to replace.

“Some of those windows are unique sizes and are quite expensive,” he said.

Authorities estimate the building sustained approximately $2,000 in damage during the break-in.

Fortunately, no employees or customers were hurt because the business was closed at the time of the burglary.

Police Question Whether Suspects Had a Real Plan

Sergeant Dunn suggested the suspects may not have fully planned the burglary before carrying it out.

“We found them about a block away from the burglary, so they didn’t make it very far,” Dunn said. “I don’t know if they really had a plan put together or not.”

The quick arrest came shortly after officers reviewed surveillance footage and began searching the nearby area.

Police Remind Businesses to Update Contact Information

Following the incident, Ardmore police encouraged local business owners to ensure their emergency contact information remains current with law enforcement.

Officials said updated contact details help officers quickly notify business owners and respond more effectively when crimes occur overnight.

“Contact the police department, check, make sure that your current information is kept here, so in case something happens at night, we’re able to contact you and react to that quickly,” Dunn said.

Second-Degree Burglary Charges Carry Serious Penalties

Under Oklahoma law, second-degree burglary generally involves unlawfully entering a building with the intent to commit a crime inside.

Convictions can result in significant prison time, fines, and long-term criminal records.

The three suspects remain in custody as the case moves through the legal process.
